Background of the Study

IT asset management (ITAM) tools help organizations track, manage, and optimize their IT assets, which include hardware, software, and network infrastructure (Johnson, 2024). By providing insights into asset usage, lifecycle, and maintenance, ITAM tools enable businesses to optimize their operations and reduce unnecessary costs associated with asset procurement, maintenance, and disposal. This case study explores how businesses in Niger State are using IT asset management tools to reduce operational costs and improve asset utilization.

Statement of the Problem

Many businesses in Niger State may not fully leverage the potential of IT asset management tools to reduce operational costs. The inefficient use of IT assets, lack of proper tracking, and failure to optimize asset lifecycle management can result in unnecessary expenditures. This study aims to assess how businesses in Niger State are utilizing IT asset management tools and their impact on reducing operational costs.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine how IT asset management tools are used to track and manage IT assets in businesses in Niger State.
  2. To evaluate the impact of IT asset management on reducing operational costs, including procurement, maintenance, and disposal costs.
  3. To identify the challenges businesses face in implementing IT asset management tools and achieving cost reductions.

Research Questions

  1. How are businesses in Niger State using IT asset management tools to track and manage their IT assets?
  2. What is the impact of IT asset management tools on operational cost reduction?
  3. What challenges do businesses face in implementing IT asset management systems effectively?

Research Hypotheses

  1. IT asset management tools significantly reduce operational costs by optimizing asset tracking, procurement, and maintenance processes.
  2. Businesses in Niger State face challenges in the effective implementation and utilization of IT asset management tools, leading to suboptimal cost reductions.
  3. Proper use of IT asset management tools leads to significant improvements in asset utilization and operational efficiency.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on businesses in Niger State that have adopted IT asset management tools to track and manage their IT assets. Limitations include potential inconsistencies in the use of ITAM tools across different industries and difficulty in obtaining access to sensitive financial data from participating businesses.
